Texas Star Basket Plate
range 12" to 13" in diameter
The imported basket made from classic Southwestern designs, features the classic image of the Texas Star. Coiled baskets are made like coiled pottery with thin strips of fibers, wood, leaves or grass and wrapped into a bundle which is coiled around in a continuous spiral. Colored with natural dyes, it is a true gift of Mother Earth. Baskets of this quality made by an actual Navajo basket weaver would sell for hundreds, even thousands of dollars. We're able to provide the same style of basket at a fraction of the cost.
Baskets were made long before pottery was invented over 9,000 years ago. A variety of plant materials were woven by plaiting, twining, and coiling. Depending on how the basket was woven determined the use of the basket. Flat trays served food and were used for winnowing seeds and parching them with hot coals. Deep baskets covered with resin were used to carry water. Tightly woven baskets were used for cooking, using hot stones. Some baskets were used for storage or carrying.
