Concho Belts are high in fashion this season and these conchos are brilliant, a real show stopper! This Native American Nickel Silver Concho Belt would look great with Rocky Mountain jeans. This stylish belt features twelve conchos that have been cut by hand from shimmering Nickel Silver. These Silver conchos feature classic hand-stamped traditional details and scalloped edges. The buckle and all of the conchos have a perfect dome that was hand hammered and then carefully fastened onto beautiful high quality leather. Concho belts are one of the most striking articles of Indian Jewelry. The medallions or plates of silver vary in number according to size. The older type had holes in the center, separated by a bar, through which was passed the strap forming the belt. The first belts were made only of conchas, with leather thongs used for fastening. Later a silver harness buckle was used, then slides of soft copper were used to attach and slide the conchos on belts and finally elaborate buckles replaced the leather thongs and simple buckles. The use of turquoise and other adornment on conchos dates back to before the 1920s. |
