Fancy Mata Ortiz Hand Painted Polychrome Indian Pottery Ring Stands
The perfect way to display your pottery! You will be getting one painted pot stand from the group pictured below.
This Mata Ortiz pottery ring stand has been decorated with traditional hand-painted designs from the Casas Grandes tradition. These pottery ring stands will safely showcase your round-bottom pottery with an extra touch of pattern and color. The hand-painted designs feature intricate patterns adopted from Mata Ortiz pottery done with red and black paint on a cream-white base. They come from the Casas Grandes region where the Mata Ortiz pottery is made. So, it stands to reason that these ring stands will go great with any Mata Ortiz pottery in your collection. The patterns and styles will vary only slightly and they all feature the same colors.
The Inspiration for Mata Ortiz pottery is taken from the ancient Casas Grandes tradition. The renaissance of this beautiful pottery began in the early 1960s, following the Amerind Foundation's excavation of the nearby Paquime ruins in 1958. Until that time there was little interest in the antiquities of the area. After the excavation, however, a new awareness developed. Casas Grandes pottery is made with clay from the mountains high above the village of Mata Ortiz, painted with human hair brushes and natural pigments (minerals and roots of plants). It is hand-formed, without the use of a potter's wheel, and dung fired. Each intricate line has been hand-painted. Each pot features beautiful workmanship and a high gloss, stone polished finish.
