Take home a piece of old world artistry. This rug is durable and of a very high quality. This particular kilim rug comes from Turkey. It's an old one. How old, we can't tell. Kilim rug weaving is an important art form for the Turkish. The traditional designs and patterns have been passed down from generation to generation, allowing us to have a glimpse at the culture of the ancient nomads of Turkey. This one was intricately flat-woven by hand on a loom from genuine wool. This one was colored with natural dyes made from plants and roots gathered from the earth. This kilim rug is adorned with the traditional patterns, symbols, and motifs.

The word ‘kilim' is of a Turkish origin, and it denotes a flat-woven textile with its heritage and origin in Turkey, Turkmenistan, North Africa, Iran, China, Pakistan, the Caucasus, and the Balkans. The oldest existing kilim rugs have been dated back to the fifth century B.C. They were discovered in Siberia by Russian archaeologist S. I. Rudenko in the 1940's. However, it is widely believed that the origins of the kilim date back to the invention of the loom. Genuine wool is the most popular material for kilim weaving due to its durability and plentiful supply. Some kilims have been made from silk and animal hair, but wool remains to be the primary material. Kilim rugs often carry traditional symbols that have strong associations with ancient mythology and communicate a cultural message to the viewer giving these rugs a great amount of traditional importance.
