This set of three offers a variety of shapes and colors. This set features a marvelous variety of Mata Ortiz pottery and it belongs in your collection! They are absolutely stunning works of art. Mata Ortiz pottery is not only a thing of aesthetic beauty but also a sound investment, as each piece grows in value over time. This selection features a selection of pots in polychrome, black-on-black and red. These pots have been masterfully hand-coiled with precision and hand-painted with brilliant traditional designs. You will receive the one-of-a-kind set of three pots pictured below.

The Inspiration for Mata Ortiz pottery is taken from the ancient Casas Grandes tradition. The renaissance of this beautiful pottery began in the early 1960s, following the Amerind Foundation's excavation of the nearby Paquime ruins in 1958. Until that time there was little interest in the antiquities of the area. After the excavation, however, a new awareness developed. Casas Grandes pottery is made with clay from the mountains high above the village of Mata Ortiz, painted with human hair brushes and natural pigments (minerals and roots of plants). It is hand-formed, without the use of a potter's wheel, and dung fired. Each intricate line has been hand-painted. Each pot features beautiful workmanship and a high gloss, stone polished finish.

We understand and know the value and collectible nature of Southwestern hand-made pottery due to its cultural and historical significance. To insure you that this is truly hand-made the traditional way, a Certificate of Authenticity has been included with this item.
