SIZZLING! A THRILL FOR THE EYE!!

This radiant sterling silver ring is full of sparkling color and beauty featuring a large hand-cut faceted amethyst paired with fiery sunset lab opal accented with delightful purples that radiate from the finely cut stone to meet the eye with exhilarating intensity. It has been made into a dashing and exciting contemporary design with silver providing a brilliant frame for the amethyst and opal which enhances each of the stone’s vivid hues and sets this ring aglow. If it were not for its widespread availability, amethyst would be a very expensive stone

The name "amethyst" comes from the Greek and means "not intoxicating." This perhaps was due to a belief that amethyst would ward off the effects of alcohol; more than likely, the Greeks were referring to the almost wine-like color of some stones they may have encountered. Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz and is a hugely popular semi-precious gemstone. Its color is unparalleled, and even other, more expensive purple gemstones are often compared to amethyst's color and beauty. Amethyst's coloration is due to ferric iron impurities reacting with the quartz in unique ways. Although amethyst is always purple, it can and does have a wide range of purple and violet shades. Because amethyst is widely available, the cost remains reasonable compared to other semi-precious stones.
